Sited on a bluff overlooking Camano Island, this remodel came to us dressed as a small vacation cabin. We added a second story to capture new views to the sea, and kept it grounded by modestly increasing its footprint.

Designed to accommodate the clients' existing furnishings, including a clawfoot tub and classic gas range, this house was built to exceed Built Green Level 3 criteria and features a passively cooled root cellar, solar hot water, and locally harvested and milled cedar siding.

This is a custom home developed with Pankalla Construction of Junction City, Oregon.
This new home is closely modeled after an existing historic house in the Willamette Valley. We drafted the plans after taking careful measurements and many photos of the original.

When first built, this home in the historic district of Bend, Oregon was modest but earnest; it suffered through multiple remodels over the past century.
Our goal was to refurbish and enlarge the livable space, while preserving the original character and intent, including the street facade. By lifting the ridge slightly and building a series of shed dormers, we more than doubled the useful space while retaining the integrity of the original design.

How can an environmental learning center be incorporated into one of the last vestiges of suburban wetland, surrounded by big-box retailers and RV dealerships? My design is a functional commentary about fitting into this abused yet naturally recovering wetland. Here is a link to the actual project: West Eugene Wetlands Education Center.

What is the nature of a progressive urban discussion? The gem of the design is the forum proper, an icon of shared unfolding tucked tidily into the cityscape.

A design for a seasonal theater for a minor piazza in Rome. The small scale of the project allowed for many iterations in a short period of time and led to a well-developed design solution.
